Water draining slowly or standing in the tub is most often caused by hair and soap buildup near the drain opening.
Safety first
Do not use a drain chemical if standing water is present or if more than one fixture is backing up. Stop and submit a request instead.

Step-by-step instructions

Put on gloves and remove any visible hair or debris from around the drain opening.

If the tub has a lift-and-turn or push stopper, remove it and clear buildup underneath.
- 3
Flush the drain with hot tap water to see if it clears.
- 4
Try a small cup or bell plunger over the drain while covering the overflow opening.
- 5
If the water still drains slowly or stands, stop and submit a maintenance request.
